AVID in the classroom
AVID is an college ready support system elective provided in the students school day. They attend everyday and experience a rigorous curriculum that includes critical thinking skills, writing, and research. Built into the curriculum, tutorials are an essential aspect of student learning, in which Socratic Seminar discussions are used to gain understanding and grow in content. In addition, field trips, guest speakers and team building activities are essential to the growth of students as they work towards becoming college ready. Each grade level focuses on different areas of concern for that particular school year. Below is an example of a given week for our AVID students:

The Avid Non-negotiables
Being an AVID student requires that students participate in a couple mandatory strategies. Included in these strategies are Cornell Notes and Binders. These strategies are encompassed in the WICOR strategies that AVID utilizes. These strategies are assessed weekly through the binder grading.
