AVID CTE Representative
My career decision to become a teacher is centered on two amazing teachers I had the pleasure of learning from, one during my high school career and one during college. Both of these teachers always showed an absolute passion for what they taught, and it was truly inspiring. Their knowledge, their love and excitement for the lessons they taught, and the high expectations they maintained for their students' success was so contagious and always motivating.
I am part of the AVID site team as a representative of our Career & Tech department here at Oswego East. Additionally, as a Project Lead the Way engineering teacher, I foster a classroom environment of problem-based learning that encourages creativity, exploration, application, and innovation - all of which work hand-in-hand with AVID's core principles.
"Any student who has the desire to learn and be successful can do so if given the proper support, resources, and encouragement. The AVID program is designed to provide students with those tools and resources that will pave a pathway to success. Working with such amazing teachers and with students who are determined to succeed is a privilege and I'm proud to be a member of the AVID team."

I am a teacher because of my experiences as a student and my experiences on Active Duty in the U. S. Coast Guard. The support and effort of my Teachers as a student was not apparent until I was older. In hindsight, they’re genuine caring about their students, myself, in particular, was amazing and inspiring. The significant positive impact that my Teachers had on me inspired me to do the same for my students. My goal every day is to make a positive impact in any way that I can.
AVID is a valuable experience for many students I support the core principals of AVID I believe that AVID not only prepares students to be successful in a post-secondary educational environment but also in life.
“I’ve always been interested in our AVID program, and when the position as the 9th grade AVID counselor opened up, I immediately went for it. I love the team approach that AVID takes to helping students reach their true potential. Not only do the students get greater one on one attention, but they get exposed to presentations, speakers, and career/college visits that they would otherwise miss as a regular student. There is also a behind the scenes AVID team that is constantly monitoring the students and trying to provide as much support as possible. It truly is an AVID family and I’m grateful for the chance to be a part of it.”
"As a School Counselor, being part of the AVID team was a natural fit. The support that the AVID team offers these students will help prepare them for the next step in their educational journey. I love how the connections that our AVID students have with the AVID team helps these students feel like they are part of a team and that their success is our success."

"AVID stands for 'Advancement Via Individual Determination'. The guiding principle of AVID is: "hold students accountable to the highest standard..." I know that as a teacher, I play a significant role in enabling my students to learn to have faith in themselves by presenting each student with the highest-level challenges and successes that are measurable and recognizable by each student, as well as each educator. As a member of the AVID Site Team, I am dedicated to ensuring that my peers know that AVID is a philosophy that benefits each and every one of our students when our interactions with them is based upon the belief that we "hold students accountable to the highest standard, provide academic and social support and they (students) will rise to the challenge."
Social Studies Representative and AVID Junior Elective teacher
I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I had the most incredible teachers throughout my childhood who always encouraged me to be the best person I could be, giving me guidance on school and life, pushing me to do my best to be successful. When I discovered my passion for history and the social studies, I knew what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. With the help of my high school history teachers and some phenomenal professors in college, I was able to channel my love for social studies into my ability to be for my students what my teachers were for me: a cheerleader, a champion, a confidant. My ability to be these things for my students only grew stronger once I became a part of the OEHS AVID team.
When I approached to become an AVID tutor and elective teacher, I had no idea of the profound impact this group of students and teachers would have on me as an educator. I have watched my students grow and find success in so many ways and I have become more purposeful as a teacher because of the amazing people I get to work with every day. I am constantly amazed by these dedicated students and I cannot wait to see the incredible things they do once they leave OEHS AVID!
